More habit than a nun

Picture a hospital bed with one side (the patient’s left) clear, and the other side (the patient’s right) blocked by a walker and a family member.  Now imagine that you have to examine that patient.

The paramedic solution:  stand where there’s room.

Today, I watched a doc so ingrained into approaching the patient from the patient’s right that he damn near climbed into bed with the patient to do so, and all I could think was:  “Aren’t you supposed to buy him dinner first?”
