Cardiac arrest “fun stuff”
2 June 2008This is the first-ever CPR and AED Awareness Week, sponsored by both the Heart Association and the Red Cross, who haven’t had dueling resuscitation methods since well before my first CPR class.
There really isn’t anything funny about cardiac arrest in general, but the AHA managed to include a “fun stuff” link within their website: a link to two videos promoting compression-only CPR for bystanders. I wasn’t sure whether to chuckle harder at the response of a bunch of engineers to their colleague dropping over dead, at the “special effects” that put a human head on a manikin body, or the fact that the American Heart Association felt the need to use a narrator with an English accent (which was bad enough that it may have actually been fake). I am sure that using a Bee Gees music bed–”Stayin’ Alive“–was way too obvious a choice.
