Sunday Silliness: perverse logic edition

15 February 2009

In a continuing theme from last week, a scientist thoughtfully examines the threat of insects as a form of biological warfare.  Needless to say, that’s serious stuff, not a properly silly topic.  What is silly is the example given in the article:

[In 1989 a] group calling itself “the Breeders” claimed to have released the Mediterranean fruit fly in Los Angeles and Orange counties….With perverse logic, they said that unless the state government stopped using pesticides, they would assure a cataclysmic infestation that would lead to the quarantining of California produce….The infestation was real enough. It was ended by heavy spraying.

Quite possibly the most bumbling ecoterrorist threat ever.
