Order matters

17 February 2009

The other day, I met a paramedic student from my alma mater.  Apparently, the new instructor at the one campus is a bit more demanding in his standards than the previous one; one of his thoughts was to introduce medication memorization to his students a bit earlier, and so he assigned them five medications to learn–on the first day of class

While I have to commend this gentleman for setting his expectations much higher than the previous goofball running that class (I’ve heard nothing but bad things about it for years), and while I’m also not certain that memorizing medications is all that helpful to begin with, I really have to wonder what would make someone ask paramedic students to memorize meds before even a single pharmacology lecture.  As much as I’d like to see more education for paramedics, I think we’re going to have to teach the teachers first.
