Farming out information

29 April 2009

I have mixed feelings about writing about the flu that’s all the rage on the nightly news:  really, I’m bored by it, but I didn’t want to be the only health blog out there not writing about it.  I decided to compromise by not writing about influenza, but by linking to a much more thorough source of information about the current H1N1 strain.  After considering at least 2 such sources, I finally settled on Aetiology, not because the writer is a hot brunette close to my age, not because she got her PhD from the school I’m getting my MD from, but because she writes well and happens to be the deputy director of the University of Iowa Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases.  She’s been paid by the National Pork Board to study MRSA in midwestern swine and swine workers; who could be better to cover the swine flu?

There is about a 99% chance that this is the last you’ll hear from me about this current flu outbreak.
